The product is composed of:

Magnesium Oxide – which has been used for almost 200 years for the aid against constipation. In the presence of water, magnesium oxide forms magnesium hydroxide. As Milk of Magnesia (MOM)
magnesium hydroxide is widely used for relief of constipation both among elderly patients and in infants. In addition, smaller doses have successfully been used as antacid. It is a very safe remedy which can be used daily by most consumers. Magnesium (hydr)oxide works by making the stool softer and therefore reducing transit time. In addition, Mg²⁺ ions cause the release of cholecystokinin which results in intraluminal accumulation of water, electrolytes, and increased intestinal motility.

Mixed Fruit Enzymes – Various glands in our body secrete enzymes that have various functions. Among these the digestive enzymes are necessary for the breakdown of food into smaller molecules that can pass through the intestinal wall into the blood stream, and in this way become useful for our body. Fruit enzymes have many of the same digestive properties as the enzymes secreted by our own organs, and therefore help digestion of starch, fat and proteins in the food. In this way these macronutrients can be absorbed in the body instead of remaining in the intestines causing bloatedness and constipation.

Papain – Although this is also a fruit enzyme, our product contains additional amounts of papain which is the dried and purified latex from the papaya fruit. It is a complex of several enzymes with proteolytic, amylolytic and some lipolytic activity. It therefore helps break down protein into smaller molecules that can be digested through the intestinal wall, as well as breaking down starch into sugar and digesting fat into shorter fatty acids.

Citric Acid – The citric acid cycle is a central process in the energy production in any living organism. Citric acid is important in the metabolism of fat, proteins of carbohydrates which in turn is converted to energy. In addition, citric acid also has a mild diuretic effect.

Prebiotics (Xylo-oligosaccharides) – These are indigestible sugars that function as substrates (food) for the good bacteria in the gut. In addition it is believed that they help prevent the feeling of bloatedness.

Probiotics (Lactobacteriae) – The intestinal flora is of utmost importance for digestion and gut health. Bacteria secrete enzymes needed for digestion of the food. If the balance between “good” and “bad” bacteria is distorted, this can result in diarrhea and other diseases, distortions of nutrient uptake, but also in constipation, bloatedness etc. An optimal bacterial flora in the intestines will therefore help maintain good gut health in many ways.
